Families in Action is a new organization created to mobilize and support Black and Latino parents to advocate for changes that benefit their children. The concept is to strengthen the role families play in education via a program that places families in the middle of reimagining and rebuilding schools, particularly in underserved communities.
The pandemic has exacerbated existing inequities – hitting hardest those who were already marginalized, vulnerable, and systemically shunned. The challenge is in how we respond and rebuild better. It is imperative that we not merely rebuild the failed model that systematically oppressed and neglected people of color for generations. We must seize the opportunity to build back better in an inclusive and equitable way.
Families in Action will strengthen education leadership diversity by giving families the tools and support they need to help rebuild our schools and reimagine education.
Families are essential partners in the education of their children and are empowered to rebuild and reimagine learning and well-being in our schools. Families are the first teachers of their children and uniquely powerful assets that enrich our schools and lead the family and the child to succeed in learning and in life.
We will strengthen education leadership diversity by giving families the tools and support they need to help rebuild our schools and reimagine education. We will leverage our lived experiences to inspire and empower families to act.
We will amplify the voices of families, build their capacity to advocate and mobilize and unleash their power to lead for changes and to challenge the status quo in all our schools, especially in underserved communities.
We will partner with schools in rebuilding and reimagining the schools in their communities. We will innovate by creating the Family Focused Reviews which can be a game-changer for schools that truly partner and listen and act alongside parents.
